I try to pull the viewer into the action through dynamic composition and vibrant colors. I wanted to capture that great feeling you get when you’ve just started a vacation and your cares have melted away.
Design and illustration are the means through which I investigate, engage, and (hopefully) enrich the digital and physical spaces we inhabit. A lot of my illustration revolves around the activities I enjoy (such as snowboarding, surfing and biking) and the cultures surrounding them.
For me, riding bikes (especially on warm summer nights), surfing, and being with friends are some things that evoke a similar mixture of serenity and exhilaration.
I did a lot of fidgeting and color tests to ensure that the orange really popped and the white ink was opaque. I printed the white areas first, then the bright orange, and then laid down navy as the final color.
For me, mountain biking is a way to clear out all the junk floating around in my brain. It’s peaceful and rewarding to get somewhere through your own power and to connect closely with your surroundings as part of the journey.
