This poster is a celebration of cycling and a nod to the Op Art of Lance Wyman’s identity system for the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games.
I'm an illustrator, designer and art director known for poster art and ability to nap under any circumstance.
After seeing his influence on design in everyday circumstances and brushing up on the the 1968 Mexico Olympics logo/identity process, my appreciation for Lance Wyman’s work reached a critical mass. It started with a conversation about bike art and quickly escalated to an exercise in variation on a theme. Read more on the process here.
My bike is a workhorse and an adventure buddy. It helps deliver art some days and inspire art other days. It makes me happy all days.
The coolest thing was falling in love with Wyman's work all over again. I read up on Op Art— there were some really trippy patterns! I really love that simple iconography, ’60s Op Art and indigenous Huichola folk art can synthesize to create something modern.
