Lanterne Rouge

About this Poster

"Lanterne Rouge" is French for "Red Lantern," which is the title given to the competitor who finishes last in a bike race. That determination and sentiment is reflected in the poster, which uses scale to juxtapose the immensity of the ride against the will of the cyclist. In the face of this challenge, the setting sun beckons the rider to keep going.

State And Terrain

This is my 3rd time participating in ARTCRANK, but my first as an actual Minnesota resident. As a "local" it was important to me to reflect that somehow in the poster. It was designed to abstractly represent the state, while more directly representing the terrain through the use of geologic diagrams. Upon closer inspection, one might also notice a loon.

Michelin Mud Green

Cyclocross embodies everything I love about the sport of cycling. Aesthetically, I've always been drawn to the proportions of cx bikes. "Michelin Mud Green" is a fantastic color, and definitely inspired my paper choice for this poster. Aesthetics aside, there's nothing better than flying through the trees on a cx bike on a crisp fall day.
